Traffic is Gold (Version 3.0) is my personal web site dedicated to the study of monetizing internet traffic.

* FIRST A LITTLE HISTORY OF THIS SITE

I registered the domain Traffic Is Gold.com on April 2, 2003 and parked it on my server. It was going to be the future repository for all my Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing efforts. My private SEO lab.

In May 2004 I installed Wordpress and started blogging about SEO/SEM. At the time I had no intention of monetizing the blog. The goal of the blog was to document my SEO and blogging efforts, test theories and create a reference and history tool.

In October 2005 I ran out of “gas” and stopped posting on my blog. Too many things were going on in my personal life and my career was moving into high gear. I simply ran out of time. Over the next year I turned the site into an affiliate site, stopped posting and slowly watched the site die. It went from a PR 5 site to a PR 1 over the course of a year.

* WHAT’S NEXT?

In December 2006 I decided to revive this blog. However this time around the blog will not be exclusively an SEO blog, it would be much more inclusive. While Search traffic is very important to my business, it represents 30 percent of my total traffic, which means 70 percent comes from other sources. These other sources require attention and optimization.

Just like with an investment strategy you should not put all your eggs in one basket. Google sends a “wake call” every few months with their algo updates. In today’s internet you must diversify your traffic sources or you will be beholden to Google and their ever changing policies.

Traffic Analogy:

It’s like having a table with just one leg. It won’t stay up for long! For this reason I am a student of ALL forms of internet traffic. Version 3.0 of this blog will reflect this diversity of thought.
I want to teach what I can about my traffic generation methods and learn as much as I can from others accomplishments. This site is dedicated to the study of online traffic and monetization.

ABOUT ME

* PERSONAL INFORMATION

My name is Joshua Landsberg and I live in Los Angeles, California. I am originally from Washington D.C. I am an East Coast transplant of almost 21 years and I have no desire to ever live on the east coast again. Don’t get me wrong I love to visit the east coast but I’ve been spoiled by the Southern Californian weather. No going back for me!

* EMPLOYMENT

I work for an online media distribution company. My main responsibilities include sourcing, driving and monetizing several “pillars” of traffic.

Here is a short list of the traffic sources I manage.

• SEM (PPC, Yahoo PI, etc…)
• Running Affiliate Programs
• Web 2.0 community site traffic such as Digg.com, Stumbleupon.com
• Targeted online Media Buys
• “Domaining” (Just getting my feet wet on this one.)
• Building blog “web rings” based on the Wordpress Platform
• Strategic partnership traffic trades.

In short, traffic monetization is a true passion of mine!
