Flock 1.0 Released

As you know from my post last week, Flock and I broke up. Read more here. Anyway, I heard version 1.0 of flock is now available, congratulations on the upgrade. I told you I had no hard feelings. On the contrary, I read a very favorable write up on [tag]Mashable.com[/tag], who in the past have not been so kind to [tag]Flock Browser[/tag].

I truly hope flock will return to it’s old glory some time in the future and if so, I would be more than happy to give it a tray.

I don’t think I will try the upgrade version. I made a successful transfer to [tag]FireFox[/tag] with the [tag]Google Reader[/tag]. So far I am very happy.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

Flock has Changed
The [tag]Flock browser[/tag] has been my default browser for a year and a half. I was using [tag]version .7[/tag], until yesterday. They (Flock) suggested an upgrade to .9, so I did. The Flock I loved was no longer the same Flock. The upgrade to .9 killed the great [tag]feed reader[/tag] [tag]GUI[/tag], the very reason I switch from [tag]FireFox[/tag]!

To add insult to injury, the new Flock browser froze my machine so bad I had to do a hard shut down to get back control of my computer.

The Break Up
I used the new Flock browse for two days but it just didn’t work out. It’s like breaking up with a [tag]girlfriend[/tag] I really liked and I am sad. My sadness lasted about 20 minutes because I know there are other options out there. Time to [tag]play the field[/tag]!

Solution
I imported my feeds into [tag]Google Reader[/tag] and downloaded the latest version of FireFox and I am back to loving the internet.

Looking Back and Then Forward
Sorry Flock I really enjoyed our time together, but you changed too much and I no longer know you. No hard feelings but it’s time to part ways. You will be fine and I will be fine. It happens. I wish you the best.

New Google Webmaster Guidelines

Pay Attention to this updated Google Webmaster News. Please!

In a blog post titled, “Hidden links”, Matt Cutts clearly lays out [tag]Google[/tag]’s view on [tag]paid links[/tag].

In Matt’s own words:

“If you want to sell a link, you should at least provide machine-readable disclosure for paid links by making your link in a way that doesn’t affect search engines…

Google is going to be looking at paid links more closely in the future…

The other best practice I’d advise is to provide human readable disclosure that a link/review/article is paid.”

So let’s recap.
1. Use “rel=nofollow” or other methods to provide “machine-readable disclosure”
2. Google is going to go after paid links.
3. Provide Human disclosure

Please do not think you can “game” Google. You may get away for a while but you will get busted. Stay clear of [tag]black hat seo[/tag] and keep your site in the [tag]serps[/tag].

Real Estate Domain Project.

New Domain Name.
I just registered a very good Domain name in the [tag]Real Estate industry.[/tag] I will use this site as a future case study. More on that later.

A sign of good luck?
I purchased the domain from [tag]Godaddy[/tag] and on purchase/checkout; you are required to fill out a challenge form to prevent automated domain name registration. The code I got was 1999. Good omen if you ask me. Let’s hope this [tag]domain[/tag] takes off and makes loads of [tag]money[/tag] so I can “[tag]party like it’s 1999[/tag]!” Sorry had to throw [tag]Prince[/tag] in the mix.

Buying Text Links Good or Bad?

Are paid text links good or bad?

It depends on who you ask? Ask [tag]Google[/tag] and it’s bad. Ask a “[tag]white hat[/tag]” [tag]SEO[/tag] and your answer will vary. I watched a youtube video of [tag]Shoemoney[/tag] taking [tag]Rand[/tag] of [tag]SEOMOZ[/tag] to task over his stance on text links. Basically, he “outed” a couple of sites using text links to increase their rankings, but at the same time he also advises his clients to use text links. Strange? Get the whole story here.

Bottom line for me, Google doesn’t like text links as a way to gain [tag]SERP ranking[/tag], but they are fighting a losing battle. You can always take your chances… or not.
